Personal Mission Statement

arielle-dixonI will strive to surround myself with individuals who love and care about me, because it is with their assistance that I reach for the stars.  I am not at my best when I allow myself to settle for less than what I deserve. Moving forward I will utilize the motivation of my friends and family with my own self-determination to meet and excel past my highest potential.

I will continue to work in an environment that I love, public relations is a field for me because I love to talk with people from all walks of life. Having the ability to promote the work of my clients to people who could use their assistance is rewarding. Although my preferred field of non-profit public relations is not one with high payout it gives me the most joy, I pledge not to change WHO I am and WHAT I believe in for the sake of greater income.  Outside of my work, I will begin to find more hours in my day for Arielle, I cannot be super woman 24/7.  I will treat myself to Friday volleyball and bi-weekly trips to the nail salon; I also pledge to fit more ME-time into my schedule.

I will use my natural talents and gifts in everything that I do; a born leader has a way of persuading the world…  I promise to use my powers for good and not evil!  My daily mantra will be ‘anything that I set my mind to can be achieved.’  I will stop making lists of what I need to do and start making plans of action, procrastination is the devil, and I refuse to feed into it any longer.  No longer will I allow myself to drag my feet about attaining my goals and dreams, instead I will begin to find ways to achieve them today.

My life journey will not be complete until I spark the mind that changes the world, I will begin this journey TODAY by becoming a mentor to youth in my community.  I will not allow the idea of failure to plague what I am here to do, by my 80th birthday there will be young men and women who tribute me by saying my presence was an impact on their life and helped shaped the person they are or the person they aspire to be.

My most important contribution to the people in my life – past, present and future will be my unconditional love and support along with my non-judgmental opinion.  I will strive to incorporate the attributes of those most dear to my heart into my daily routine.  Every day I will be a tenacious woman with a vision that perseveres even over the largest obstacles.

I will also find balance in my life by praying -not just in times of need but also in times of thanksgiving, by working out and relieving my body of stress, by taking a breather – whether it be a long walk in the park or driving the scenic route home, and surrounding myself with people who will be there for me in times of triumph and sorrow.

Daniel Fast – I made it through!

Midnight tonight will mark my completion of a fast that I began to rebuild my relationship with God in addition to gaining refocus and direction in 2012. Twenty-one days ago, I pledged to myself and God that I would maintain a complete-plant based diet as Daniel did.

“In those days I, Daniel, was mourning three full weeks. I ate no pleasant food, no meat or wine came into my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.” Daniel 10:2, 3

The fast has proved to be a feat, as my friends enjoyed luscious meals and fabulous drinks I abstained, drinking only water and 100% juice and eating only fruits and vegetables. I relied heavily on my inner strength and the power of prayer to get me through my weakest moments.  I recommend that anyone looking to realize how strong they truly are to look at the Daniel Fast. Completion of this fast has reminded me that when I set my mind to something that I am capable of anything. I am grateful for my friend Michaela for advising me of this fast and staying strong with me, even 3000 miles away.

Making it Through Finals Week

  1. Any person that has ever been a student can agree with the statements below:
  2. Finals are going to be the death of me……..
    December 6, 2011 5:45:10 PM EST
  3. I’m growing immune to all nighters..
    November 30, 2011 3:45:45 AM EST
  4. The anxiety of the culmination of a semester can be overwhelming as professors are setting deadlines for papers and exams. Some students may even find it difficult to perform at their best ability due to their immune system just not being at it’s best due to sleep deprivation.
  5. @WhiteT081 that almost all nighter burnt out my immune system. I got the #sickness. I’m afraid it will take longer to catch up now
    December 6, 2011 4:22:51 AM EST
  6. All nighter yesterday was a success. Ended after 37 hours of no sleep with 29 hours of work and school. Sleep was the greatest thing ever.
    December 6, 2011 4:27:14 PM EST
  7. The best ways to cope with the stress of finals week is to find something that can completely get your mind off of your studies or at least help you successfully get through them. Here are some tips that students have found helpful to get their minds off of finals:
  8. 1. Sweat it out in the gym! Wether you take a yoga, or hip hop dance class, do some laps in the pool or on the track or just do your normal workout routine, physical activity is a great stress reliever. It’s very effective so you can exercise, jump in the shower and head back to the library to finish some studying.
  9. going to do some yoga to relieve the stress finals are giving me!
    December 6, 2011 2:20:38 PM EST
  10. just had the best hip hop class! what a stress reliever during finals!! Thank you Hans Abelard Pierre!! 🙂
    December 6, 2011 3:16:39 PM EST
  11. going swimming. time to relieve some stress.
    December 6, 2011 2:46:44 PM EST
  12. apparently sex is a University recommended way to de-stress during finals week. who’da thunk?…
    December 6, 2011 3:37:47 PM EST
  13. 2. Get some sleep! The ad team at Red Bull hit it on the nose when they released the advertisement which states: “Nobody Ever Wishes They Slept More in College”. Although energy drinks such as Red Bull and 5-Hour energy can do amazing things when you are on the “heater” of your studying. Getting some sleep is 5x times better for you and is way more effective. Sleep deprivation is like an epidemic on college campuses, avoid this by maintaining a regular sleep schedule or by sneaking a nap in when you feel like you’ve hit a brick wall.
  14. For People who are stressing the week before finals, here’s some advice, take a little break, grab your blanket, lay down on your fluffy soft pillow, turn the tv on,if you have one, and slowly close your eyes and drift to sleep for about 20-30 minutes 🙂 That’s what I did, and man do I feel great 🙂 I feel the stress just leaving me and now I can think clearly and I’m ready for finals!!!
    December 6, 2011 3:36:58 PM EST
  15. I can either get enough sleep and not stress or I could do neither of those things and be ready for my finals. #decisions #college
    December 6, 2011 6:19:06 PM EST
  16. Tonight, I’m not thinking about finals! Instead, I am going to enjoy a fantastic meal and relax/relax with some friends!
Tomorrow let the stress, panic, and lack of sleep commence.
    December 1, 2011 7:14:33 PM EST
  17. Dear finals,
You suck! You cause WAYYYYYY to much stress. I need my sleep for my sake and others around me. Please go away like now!One cranky and losing her patience chick.
    December 2, 2011 4:25:50 PM EST
  18. 3. Listen to your favorite tunes! Walking across a college campus you will notice that most students are walking around with headphones in their ears rocking out to their favorite music. A good way to keep yourself going is to listen to music. Think, would you go on a 5 hour road-trip in silence?! NO! Help the time go by and take a study break with your favorite Pandora station or playlist on Spotify.
  19. papers all over the floor, headache, stress and music loud #finals
    December 4, 2011 10:47:51 PM EST
  20. Not even Christmas music can compete with this amount of stress…… #finals #nursingschoolproblems
    December 3, 2011 3:10:28 PM EST
  21. Drowning my finals stress in Christmas music 🙂 #christmascheer
    December 4, 2011 10:36:40 PM EST
  22. When I start to lose my mind from finals stress I listen to awesome eurodance music…
    December 2, 2011 10:20:03 PM EST
  23. 4. Don’t forget the study snacks! How do you plan on pulling a successful study session if you have not properly fueled your body? The suggestion is to always eat healthy foods, but the reality of being a starving college student is that sometimes that isn’t a reality. BUT if the choice is to be made to have a fully balanced meal over the calorie-loaded McDonalds deal for the same price, then make the smarter decision.
  24. Good luck on finals everyone!!!
Chabad House is a great place to get some quiet studying time and snacks.
    You’re welcome to come by!
    December 5, 2011 9:10:12 AM EST
  25. my snack drawer is on point…I’m ready 4 finals….in regards to the snacks that is. lol
    December 6, 2011 5:50:07 PM EST
  26. Finals on the brain? Come to the McDowell Room for some quiet study time, caffienated beverages, and snacks! We are open from 9am-9pm all week!
  27. 5. Watch the clock/calendar and maximize your time! As much as we would all like to say that we are not procrastinators, people stress over deadlines because the work that was assigned last month still isn’t done. So do what you can now to make up for your choice to go to out and party last week instead of the final paper. I wish there was a way to combat this but we’re in college, just get to it now. Don’t forget to breath along the way.
  28. Finals time is like New Years. People promise themselves that they’re gonna do better next semester, but always end up doing the same shit.
    December 6, 2011 7:16:50 PM EST
  29. Let go after finals! Now that you’re done with the stress of studying do NOT continue to bite your nails waiting to get the results back. As a matter of fact go get your nails done, hair done, everything did! Have a King/Queen ____ [Insert your name here] Day where you reward yourself for all the hard work you just did. Even if it is simply taking a day to catch up on all the missed hours of sleep from the semester, do it! You deserve it, you’re officially on Christmas break anyways!

For those of you still on the study warpath, best of luck… There is light at the end of the tunnel and I believe that you can do it! As I tell all my friends “GET ‘ER DONE!”

Summer of Spontaneity

Friday my roommates and I decided that this summer we are going to live on the seat of our coattails and go with the flow. That being said yesterday at work I received a text asking about a trip to VA Beach for the Memorial Day holiday and we are actually getting ready to walk out of the door and begin the journey!

Hungry want a Philly Cheesesteak? Why no jump on the train to Philadelphia and go to Pat’s King of Steaks. What about a need for new clothes it’s a bus ride away to the Fashion District in NYC.

Our goal for the summer is to just work, explore, make/save/spend money and have the best possible time! Random journeys to interesting places are on the horizon and I will try my best to post pictures on here.

That being said: This summer if you have a beach house/summer home/extra days at a time share that you have neglected please let me know, we’ll book tickets or gas up the car and be on our way. We are 4 RESPONSIBLE college students that will make sure your house is in tip top shape when we leave. 😀

Officially a SENIOR in college

While working on my biography I was taken aback reading that I, Arielle Dixon, am a senior in college. It is surreal to me because I swear that I was just experiencing my first days away from home and as an independent adult. I cannot believe how quickly the time has flown by and am glad for every experience/opportunity that I have had over the past four years. I am thankful for being able to make it this far and am excited to see where the journey of life takes me next.
